•06/06/2006 We just returned from Wizard World Philadelphia. What a show! For the second convention in a row.. WE SOLD OUT!!! That's right, "the city of Brotherly Love" loves The Miscellaneous Adventures of STYKMAN™. A great big THANK YOU goes out to all of the existing and newly acquired fans. You made our trip well worth wild; And we love you for it. The rundown of the weekend is as follows: We arrived in Philadelphia a couple of days early in order to see some of the fantastic history and amazing architecture. Being from Southern California we found it difficult to acclimate to the humidity (in fact it felt like we were melting). Temperature aside we had a marvelous time touring the city and visiting the very site where high treason was committed (Signing of the Declaration of Independence.). (CLICK HERE to see a photo journal of some of the awe inspiring sites). Friday 06/02/2006 The show opened with
a bang. A large number of people had begun lining up out in front of
the convention center anxiously awaiting the doors to open. Once they
did, individuals of all shapes and sizes poured into the hall. Although
people seemed a bit on the grumpy side (must have been the heat), those
who found their way to Artist Alley quickly snagged their copy of STYKMAN™.
The response was so great, we were concerned we might run out before
Sunday. To our left in Artist Alley was Chris Moreno, artist extraordinare
on, most recently, Dracula Vs King Arthur. To our right was a new
exhibitor with some pretty unique art, Christopher Uminga. He had
quite a response to his art and might be worth a look to you www.cuminga.com. Saturday 06/03/2006 Today was busy. Bodies everywhere and many, many people in costume. We nearly doubled our sales from friday. Several people who purchased STYKMAN™ came back by to tell us how much they enjoyed the book. This, to me, is the greatest compliment. Someone taking the time out of their day to come by and give us a thumbs up. It means the world to us. We also made some wonderful
contacts with the folks over at Diamond. I wouldn't
be surprised if they begin distributing STYKMAN™ later
this year. We'll keep you posted on this. The highlight of the day had to be meeting Bob Wayne, VP of sales of DC Comics. Bob was supposed to join is for dinner the night before only to be called away at the last minute to dinner with Dan Didio, Geoff Johns, Andy and Adam Kubert, Jr. and Sr. Romita, etc. For the likes of me I cannot understand why he chose to go to dinner with them instead of us (wink, wink.) ;0) . He did however come by and apologize. He has to be one of the nicest, funniest guys I have met in the industry. It was a real treat. I look forward to chatting with him at future shows. Sunday 06/04/2006 another great turnout. Many more people came by to tell us the good news about the comic and many others picked up a copy of their own. We sold the last copy we had on hand around 3:30pm; but hung out until the end of the show to continue to promote the book. We even sold the viewing copy we had on hand for people to check out the book before they bought it. This thing was a bit mangled and yet a newly acquired fan had to have it. Pretty cool. We had the opportunity to talk with, albeit briefly, Kevin Smith. He was in a hurray and flanked by security so we did not want to take up too much of his time. We did manage to get a copy of STYKMAN™ in his hands. Another really nice guy. Hopefully we'll get to follow up with him. We'll let you know. Although we had no one pan-handling for a copy of The Miscellaneous Adventures of STYKMAN™ (See Emerald City Con news), we had an amazing time and made a plethora of new friends. Great show Philly. Thank you so very much. We will be back next year. Laurem Writes: Neither can we Lauren. Neither can we. Next up on the convention circuit: THE BIG ONE |
