•04/04/2006 We just got back from Seattle, Washington and the Fourth Annual Emerald City COMICON. What a show! Not only did we receive a warm hug and a big 'ol wet, lickery kiss from the city, we sold out of the comics and posters we brought. A very first for us. Thank you Seattle. Although short staffed, we were still able to meet and greet the many attendees that brought the show to life. All in total, we picked up 50+ new fans of the Miscellaneous Adventures of STYKMAN™. The rundown of the weekend is as follows: Friday 03/31/2006 was not one of those
days one really wishes to experience. The goal was to get into the
downtown area of Seattle by 10:30 am and spend the rest of the day
visiting the many retailers in a 20 mile radius of the Seattle area.
Best laid plans, and all that. Having been bumped off of the 7:30 am
flight out of LAX, the next flight was not until 12:00 pm. I don't
know about you, but 5 hours in the airport is not what I would subscribe
to as being fun. Saturday 04/01/2006 Arriving in the
lobby, we found out we would need to hire a cab to get us to the convention
(more good news.). Fortunately Heidi and Jim Meeley from COMICS
FAIRPLAY came
to our rescue with their vehicle, chauffeuring abilities and witty
banter. This was the first of many wonderful encounters over the course
of the weekend. At the show, we discovered Dark
Horse Comics was next
to us with a booth full of giveaways. This worked out great for us.
Dark Horse always attracts a lot of people. Sunday 04/02/2006 began just as the day before with a great turnout at the show. Many of the newly acquired fans of STYKMAN took the time to come by the booth and tell us how much they loved the comic and can't wait for issue 2 (This month). Several creators from different fields of art came by to visit and pick up their copy including: Mike Cressy, Verne Siebert, Mark Monlux, and many others. As stated above, we sold out of the copies we brought. A first for us and very exciting. I have to say, the most hysterical moment of the show happened on Sunday. Two young guys (I did not get their names. Sorry guys) came by the booth hoping to get their hands on Issue 1. Unfortunately they did not have any money left having been at the show for both days. However much I would have like to, giving them a free copy would not be fair to the many who purchased one. Undeterred, the two guys set off to find the necessary capital. before the close of the show, these two guys showed up with a handful of change they had panhandled from other attendees. It cracked me up so much I had to take their picture (See side bar). Jeremy from Dark horse made the crack, "Look at that, even the homeless love STYKMAN™" Great show Seattle. Thank you so very much. We will be back next year. Next up on the convention circuit: WIZARD WORLD PHILADELPHIA |
